Annual Report to General Assembly due Dec. 1.
The Joint Committee on Transparency and Open Government was authorized in June 2011 (Chapters 508 & 509, Acts of 2011). Since the General Assembly has concluded that ". . . it is in Maryland's best interest to continue to build on and improve citizen engagement in all aspects of our government . . .", the Committee charge is to provide continuing Legislative oversight regarding transparency and open government. It also will identify areas in which the State can improve its technology and websites to increase transparency and citizen involvement in government. In addition, the Committee is to make recommendations to increase citizen access to government resources, publications, and actions.

Of the Committee's twelve members, six senators are appointed by the Senate President, and six delegates are named by the House Speaker. The Senate President and House Speaker each designate a co-chair (Code State Government Article, sec. 2-10A-14).
