In 2002, the Department of Natural Resources Special Funds Work Group was set up at the request of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and the House Appropriations Committee. During the 2002 and 2003 interims, the Work Group reviewed the number and function of special funds administered by the Department of Natural Resources. The Work Group considered the statutory requirements for each special fund, the level of administrative costs deducted, and whether each fund is being used appropriately.
In January 2004, the Work Group submitted a report of its findings and recommendations to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and the House Appropriations Committee.
