CENTER FOR INDUSTRY INITIATIVES
Center for Industry Initiatives was established in 2005 under a grant from U.S. Department of Labor. To determine workforce needs of private sector, Industry Initiative Coordinators worked with representatives from targeted industries, including aerospace, construction, cybersecurity, and health information technology. To coordinate these needs with State workforce development system, Center identified local education and training resources, business services, and social service programs.
Inactive since Jan. 2015 due to lack of funding.

TASK FORCE ON DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO AID UNEMPLOYED STATE RESIDENTS
In October 2011, Governor's Workforce Investment Board was authorized to establish an advisory committee. That committee subsequently was called Task Force on Development of Educational Programs to Aid Unemployed State Residents (Chapter 359, Acts of 2011; Code Labor & Employment Article, sec. 11-505.1).
Task Force charge was to identify workforce needs and educational and training requirements for employment sectors showing growth opportunities and job availability. For regions of Maryland with highest levels of unemployment, Task Force was to determine their workforce education and training needs.
Annually, Task Force was to submit recommendations to Governor; Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee; and House Committee on Ways and Means.
Task Force last met in Jan. 2015.
