In October 2013, the Frederick Regional Higher Education Advisory Board was established (Chapter 375, Acts of 2013). In May 2015, the Board was renamed the Frederick Center for Research and Education in Science and Technology (CREST) Governing Board (Chapter 218, Acts of 2015).
With Hood College, Mount St. Mary's University, and Frederick Community College, the Governing Board is working to establish the Frederick Center for Research and Education in Science and Technology. In the Frederick County region, the Board supports the development of higher education, and works with local institutions of higher education in accomplishing their missions. The Board also markets and promotes programs offered by the Frederick Center for Research and Education in Science and Technology, and promotes interaction between local business, education, military, nonprofit and Frederick National Laboratory communities.
The Governing Board's mission statement was approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission in November 2015.
