Appointed to four-year terms by the Board of County Commissioners, the Board consists of nine members (Code Local Government Article, sec. 1-606; County Code, secs. 252-1 through 252-3).

BOARD OF RECREATION & PARKS
The Board of Recreation and Parks advises the Board of County Commissioners on matters of general policy relating to parks and public recreation in the County. Subject to budgetary policies and appropriations, the Board of Recreation and Parks may initiate, adopt, direct, or cause to be conducted or directed a comprehensive program of public recreation in schools, parks, or other lands or buildings, either publicly or privately owned. It also may develop, equip, operate, maintain, establish rules and regulations and issue permits for the use of parks and recreational facilities. In addition, the Board may recommend to the Board of County Commissioners the acceptance or disposal of real and personal property suitable for recreational purposes and public parks.
